How do I enable the AI features?

Some AI features — smart search, AI photo editing, AI Coach, image & video generation, AI Characters, and AI music for memory collage videos — are powered by Google's Gemini API. To keep these free, 5AM lets you add your own free Gemini API key. When you first tap an AI feature, an onboarding screen will walk you through it. You can get a free key at aistudio.google.com/apikey and paste it into the in-app prompt. Your key is stored securely on your device and is never shared.

How does backup work?

With Auto Backup enabled, 5AM safely backs up your photos and videos in the background to your private cloud storage, so they're available across your devices. You can turn Auto Backup on or off any time in Settings.

How do I share an album?

Open an album, tap Share, and invite people by email or generate a shareable link. You control who has access and can revoke sharing at any time from the album's settings. You can also set a price to turn it into a paid album (see below).

What is a memory collage video?

5AM can automatically turn a collection of your photos and videos into a short collage video — with smart cropping that keeps faces in frame and an optional AI-generated soundtrack. Open a Memory and choose "Create collage video" to make one.

How much storage do I get?

Every account includes free storage to get started. If you need more, optional subscriptions unlock additional cloud storage. You can view your usage and manage your plan in Settings.

What are paid albums?

Paid albums let you sell access to a collection of your photos or videos. When you share an album, you can set a price; anyone with the link can preview it and pay to unlock the full album. It's a simple way for photographers and creators to charge for their work without a separate storefront. You set the price, and you can change or remove it at any time from the album's sharing settings.

How do payments work? Is it secure?

All payments are processed securely by Stripe, a leading global payment provider. 5AM never sees or stores your full card details — they go directly to Stripe. Buyers pay the album price plus a small (10%) service fee, and once payment completes the album unlocks automatically. Purchases are currently completed on the web at 5am.app; if you start a purchase in the iOS app, you'll be taken to the secure web checkout and can return to the app to view the album.

How do I get paid for my paid albums?

Creator payouts are handled through Stripe Connect. To receive money, connect a Stripe account in your 5AM account settings (Payouts / Creator settings) — Stripe will guide you through a quick onboarding to verify your identity and add a bank account. Once connected:

• You earn your full listed album price on each sale — the 10% service fee is added on top and paid by the buyer.
• Earnings accrue and are paid out to your connected bank account by Stripe on a recurring basis.
• You'll receive an email each time a payout is processed, including which album the earnings came from.

You can review your sales and payout history in your account settings. Payout timing and any country-specific requirements are governed by Stripe.

How do I delete my account or my data?

You can delete individual photos, videos, and albums directly in the app. To delete your entire account, go to Settings  and use the "Delete Account" option in the Danger Zone — on the web this is on the main Settings page, and on iOS it's under Profile → Account Settings. Your account is deactivated immediately and your stored media is permanently removed after a 90-day grace period; if you sign back in with the same Apple or Google account during that window, you can reactivate it. If you'd prefer, you can also email us at  [email protected] and we'll process your request.

I forgot how to sign in.

5AM uses Sign in with Apple and Continue with Google. Use the same method you originally signed up with to access your account and library.
